Back to basics

5 Sep

We moved into the house with zero appliances. Which didn’t seem like a big deal at the time till you realize having cold water, and clean clothes is kind of necessary in this day & age!! So a frantic order to Sears Commerical was placed- we got a 10% discount ordering through this service as they don’t have to pay sales commission to floor staff – I highly recommend it!

First up was a fridge – we didn’t want to go all out and get the dream fridge right now as we are still designing the kitchen, but we needed something to tide us over- so we bought a little compact Kenmore that ultimately we can repurpose to go into the pool house once that gets renovated.  After a week of no cold drinks, a heatwave & school starting for the first time I was more than happy when this little guy showed up:

Up next was laundry equipment – I am somewhat of a washaholic – so for me living without a washer for a week was torture! Of course true to form we had to replace some taps  and the waste water line before the washer could be installed, so Jon set to work doing that the night before they arrived.

I spent a ton of time on this decision as we wanted to make sure we got good quality but didn’t go over the top. I finally settled on the LG range, and I wanted the cherry red. We went for the 4.2 cu ft washer & matching gas dryer and the 3 year warranty. I have to say I am super happy. They both make the most amazing beeping noise when you turn them on, and they have all the settings you could ever need. Sears came and installed it and when they made a mistake on one aspect of the installation, they were back the next day to fix it.

We now feel like we are living in the 21st century again, that one week without any mod cons really gave me an appreciation for the simple things in life again.

I love how shiny and new the washer/dryer look in comparison to everything else! Quite a contrast.
