For a long time now I have loved the roaring twenties era. The fashion, the design the sheer vivaciousness of life then..post war and full of decadence! So I was uber excited when I heard that the movie was being remade with Leonardo diCaprio starring as Gatsby.
Baz Luhrmann of Romeo and Juliet fame is directing the new Gatsby movie and this second trailer was just released…the sets and costumes look so amazing I’m sure it will spark off a revival in 20’s deco style. I for one will be finding a way to incorporate flapper dresses into my everyday wear!
Will you be going to see this movie? What’s your favorite historical Era?
Emerald Green! I am thrilled by this as its my birthstone color but its a gorgeous rich color that is really difficult to use in interiors without it overpowering rooms. Too much and you could end up with a front room looking like the Wizard of Oz’s castle!
Here’s my favorite pin-spirations of people using emerald-green in their homes in a chic and tasteful manner…..
Emerald green walls
Accenting with Emerald green.
A chic entry way using green & polka dots!
Bold curtains on a neutral backdrop
What do you think of this year’s color? Would you put any emerald-green accents in your home or is it too overpowering for you?

Have you heard of Cable & Cotton?
They are so great for making a cool light feature in a room and you can customize them in ANY color choice using their pick your own tool, which is perfect for the little light feature I am making for my eldest sons room.
Based out of the UK (and shipping to the USA) they create beautiful handmade string lights in Thailand using skilled workers to weave natural cotton and glue into the ball shapes around balloon which they then pop and secure onto the sting lights. They also provide training and education for their workers and insist on healthy working environments so you rest assured that your dollars or pounds are ging to help others.
Cable & Cotton String Lights
There’s so many things you can do with these lights – table top decor, or a cool light feature in a glass vase. You could even make a set of lights to match your holiday decor – I just ordered a plain white string so that I can hang them over our stairwell.

They have a great deal on right now – 40% off for their US-based Customers. Enter XMASUSA at the checkout. And don’t delay – this offer expires in either 7 days or when they sell 1,000 sets of 20 lights!!!!
The uber talented artist and SF resident Lisa Congdon unveiled today her new line of wallpapers for the fab design house Hygge & West. I’m a big fan of not only Lisa’s work but also Hygge & West’s designer collaborations – they work with a small group of talented designers to produce really beautiful papers and Lisa’s line is no exception.
Here’s my pics of a really gorgeous bunch!
Bohemian in Gold by Lisa Congdon
I love the all over pattern of this bohemian in gold. To contrast it Lisa also developed this simple fern print that is effortless in its styling.

And this equally graphic triangles paper that has Scandinavian influence woven through its design.

Target + Neiman Marcus just released some pics of their upcoming collaboration with 24 of America’s most talented designers inc Oscar De La Renta, Marc Jacobs and Derek Lam. Focused on creating the perfect holiday gifts there’s something for everyone from homewares to clothing and even a bike and prices start at just $7.99.
This collaboration is a first for the two retail giants to work together. As the CEO of Target, Gregg Steinhafel states “Target and Neiman Marcus are known for charting new terrain, and by joining forces for the holiday season, we’ve set the stage for a redefining moment in retail,”. The collection is limited edition, available in both stores and if the previous collaboration with Missoni was anything to go by then its sure to be a sell out.

Sigh – come to me my pretties!!! Only 8 more sleeps.
I had the extreme fortune to be in Vancouver last week with work and I took the opportunity to check out the interior shopping options in the city whilst I was there. This was only my second trip to this gorgeous city but I was happy to say it was a world away from the first which was a bit of a depressing disaster (you can thank the US Embassy for that!!) – the sun was shining the whole time, the city was buzzing and everyone I spoke to was either super helpful or really happy.
Wandering through the streets of Granville Island I stumbled into Mint – this is a little of the beaten path from the downtown but again it has a great selection of carefully curated home goodies. Here was some of my faves that I havent seen before …..
Bee Cereal Bowl by Laura Zindel
And this art hiding a book-case which is just awesome and ever so slightly weird. I love the art on the front – it really makes you stop and stare for a minute!
Les Dandy’s – Edmond Dantes Bookcase
And this locally made cotton wall clock that you can have custom-designed by the artist in a range of colors.

If you are ever in the Vancouver area I highly recommend checking out Mint.
Things have been a little crazy in the Renovation Diaries household the last two weeks as I have been on the road non stop travelling for work which has left me with very little time to post and NO time to update on our house progress. I will address that soon I promise and do some house updates but first I wanted to share a gem of a store I literally stumbled into in NYC.
Organic Modernism is a furniture company based out of Brooklyn and they create and sell some of the most beautiful furniture I have ever seen. I walked about their store on Broadway just gasping at their stuff. Of course I whipped out my phone to start snapping pics and then it died on me (the joys of travelling!!) and so a few images from their website will have to do.
This Belt chair had me almost in tears – I love it so much…

and check out the style of this Flamingo table – covering off two of my favorite materials at the moment brass and walnut.

And their lighting is equally as cool. I love the 3 light look of this aptly named Trilight.

Finally one of my favorite pieces Alma Brass ..the bright blue fabric, the bronze dipped walnut legs..Swoon!!

The awesome folks over at Organic Modernism will even work with you to create bespoke pieces, so you can design away to your heart’s content and have them make something for you. I think I just found a new favorite furniture store.
A while ago we were gifted this awesome replica animal skull for our front living room walls. I love it in its raw state and hadn’t thought of doing anything to enhance it till I saw this one on Etsy.
Cow skull with gold triangle
A few simple embellishments – the subtle rope at the horn’s base and the golden triangle have transformed this into an artwork statement. What an easy way to take an already stunning natural piece and push the boundaries – I can see something similar happening to my skull very soon!!
